3 Fall Drinks You Need to Try

Autumn is all about feeling cozy and comfortable. Once the weather starts cooling down, we all want to pull out our sweaters and blankets and spend more time relaxing. Whether you’re spending your days at apple orchards, pumpkin patches, or you’re at home watching your favorite Halloween movies, there are some things that just feel like fall that you need to do each year. Many people look forward to the classic fall flavors in their favorite food or drinks, in addition to all the seasonal events and activities. Few things feel better than enjoying a rich, seasonal meal or holding onto a warm mug of your favorite drink.

Fall cocktails are the perfect way to warm up and enjoy some of the best flavors the season has to offer. This fall, try out these three fall drinks.

Mulled Wine

Mulled wine is one of the most classic cold-weather drinks you can find and has been a staple for many people for years. Not only will the warmth of this drink provide some comfort, but it also has all the flavors you want on a cool, crisp fall day. This is also the perfect drink to make for get-togethers this season, as it can easily be made in large batches.

To start out, you’ll need one bottle of your favorite dry red wine. Combine the red wine with one orange cut into slices, two cinnamon sticks, three star anise, and four to eight cloves in a medium saucepan. Bring this to a bowl, and then let it simmer for ten minutes. You can also add your preferred sweetener, such as sugar or honey, to taste. Serve the wine while still warm and add garnishes like additional cinnamon sticks, apple slices, berries, star anise, or orange slices.

You can also modify this to make it more your taste, like using a dry white instead of a red, or adding some of your favorite fruit juices.

Pumpkin White Russian

Fall isn’t complete for most people without having at least one pumpkin-flavored drink during the season. There are plenty of ways to incorporate this into drinks, but a white Russian is a great choice.

You can make a pumpkin white Russian the same way you would make a regular one, except with pumpkin pie creamer instead of heavy cream. Combine two ounces of vodka with one ounce of coffee liqueur and one ounce of pumpkin pie creamer. Serve this drink over ice.

There are a few ways you can garnish your pumpkin white Russian for a more seasonal fall look. You can cover the rim of the glass in cookie or graham cracker crumbs or add a cinnamon stick. To make it feel more like pumpkin pie, you can put a dollop of whipped cream on top and sprinkle some pumpkin pie spice over it.

Apple Cider Hot Toddy

In terms of beloved fall flavors, apple is right up there with pumpkin. A hot toddy is another warm cocktail that’s a favorite during the fall and winter, but this version is even more fitting for fall. You can use whatever apple cider you can find in the grocery store or apple cider you picked up on your recent apple picking trip.

First, simmer five ounces of apple cider with a teaspoon of lemon juice, two teaspoons of honey, and a cinnamon stick in a medium saucepan. You can adjust the amount of lemon and honey if you prefer your drink more or less sweet. Once this is simmering, put it into a glass and add two ounces of one of the bourbons you can find in our popular bourbon selection.

If you want, you can garnish this drink with star anise, a cinnamon stick, or apple slices.

Find Everything You Need for Fall

There are plenty of fall drinks out there that are worth trying. With so much to try before the season is over, you need to stock up on the right ingredients. Whatever you need to create your ideal fall drink, you can find it at All American Liquor.

Planning the Perfect Adult Halloween Party

Even though the weather is cooling down and we’re all spending less time outside, the fall still has plenty to do. Between corn mazes, pumpkin patches, apple picking, and taking trips to see the foliage, you can easily make plans for every weekend during the fall. Of course, one of the most important parts of the season is Halloween. We never outgrow the excitement of Halloween – if anything, there’s even more to do as an adult. An adult Halloween party is the perfect way to celebrate the season and something all your friends will love.

A Halloween party requires a lot of planning for it to come together just right. Here’s some advice for planning the perfect adult Halloween party.

Invest in Decor

Part of what makes Halloween parties so fun is getting to go all out with your theme. You have plenty of options to choose from for your party’s theme, like a classic orange and black Halloween party or something more specific, like a theme that involves all the popular scary movies. To make your theme obvious to guests, you need to invest in great party decor. Halloween parties aren’t that hard to decorate for, especially if you have a good idea of how you want it to look. Plus, most of the decor you’ll want is easy to find this time of year. You can find plenty of spooky ways to decorate, like getting special lighting that can instantly transform a space.

Bring Drinks

No party is complete without drinks, especially a Halloween party. Whatever size of party you’re having, making a large batch of something is the best way of serving drinks. Of course, you can still provide cans, but a themed mixed drink is essential for a Halloween party. For a drink that your guests will love, make your own Halloween punch with vodka. This is something you can easily match to your theme by using bold colors and using popular fall flavors. You can make a creepy blood-red drink easily by making a punch bowl of vodka cranberry and adding in blood orange juice, or simply adding black food coloring to your favorite punch recipe. Instantly up the game of your Halloween drinks by using dry ice to create smoke. Since it’s a Halloween party, you need to find the right way to serve your punch, like in a witch’s cauldron.

Give Out Treats

Treats are a given for a Halloween party. However, you don’t have to stick to your typical grocery store candy. There are tons of Halloween themed food ideas for your party. If you’re a creative baker, you can find ways to take regular party foods and find ways to decorate them to look scarier, like mummifying your foods with pastry dough or adding fake eyeballs to foods. If you’re more into festive flavors than decorative foods, you can’t go wrong with fall flavors like pumpkin and apple.

Host a Costume Contest

It goes without saying that costumes should be the main focus of a Halloween party. To highlight your guests’ costumes, you need to have a costume contest. Most people already expect to have this at a Halloween party, no matter what age you are. For a smaller party, you might only be able to give out one award for best costume, but at a larger event, consider giving out awards for different categories, like the funniest costume, scariest costume, and most original costume. You can also have runner ups for best costume to give more people a chance at winning something. Find something creative to give to the winners, like gift cards or goodie bags.

Create a Great Playlist

Halloween parties are all about giving off a spooky and festive vibe. The finishing touch for your party should be the right playlist. It’s easy to find already-made Halloween playlists online, but if this is something you’re very into, you can look for all the right songs yourself. You might go with some of the more nostalgic Halloween songs, songs that give off a fall feel, or just use Halloween special effect sounds like you’d hear in a haunted house. This is sure to put all your guests in a festive mood.

Yes! You can Drink Red Wine In the Summer

We know that thoughts of a typical summer (side-eye coronavirus) include sunshine, towels, grilling, and a refreshing glass of wine.  What is probably not on the agenda is buying a bottle of red wine, and we’re here to encourage you to drink red wine ALL YEAR long. We promise that red wine deserves its day at the beach, let’s get ready to become total wine snobs!

First things first, red wine during the summer tastes best chilled. Obviously, not all red wines can be chilled; for example: cabernet sauvignon become metallic and bitter in taste, not exactly the taste we are going for.  The best red wines to chill tend to be on the sweeter side and  light in body.

We found that the best way to chill a bottle of red wine for poolside sipping was to throw it in a refrigerator, ice bucket or your Yeti and forget about it for about an hour. Okay, now that the basics are out of the way, let’s talk about the best red wines to serve chilled.

Summer Red Wines That Make Us Chill (literally)

PINOT NOIR

While you may be enjoying this year round at room temperature, chances are you haven’t tried this chilled, it is heavenly (now you know).  We aren’t bougie; one of our favorite value wines is, Josh Cellars Pinot Noir, it’s bright flavor of ripe cherries with deep earthy flavors with oak, spice, and delicate texture. When chilled, it tastes like cherry and strawberries.  We love to pair it with Umami turkey burgers.  For special occasions we never stray far from, Willamette Valley Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir, it has a silky mouthfeel and tastes like cherry, raspberry and blackberry  and smells incredible due to its floral and spice notes.  This is a must try with grilled lamb lollipops or even a herb-crusted pork tenderloin.

LAMBRUSCO

If you have ever been to Bucca di Beppo, you will instantly remember their food AND their lambrusco. It is a sparkling red wine and it pairs perfectly with pizza.  Going to a pool party? A must have is, Riunite Lambrusco, the ancient Romans nicknamed Labrusco, “Nectar of the Gods”…they weren’t far off, it pairs wonderfully with pasta too.

STELLA ROSA

The Stella Rosa brand has taken off like wildfire these past few years, in part because they are served chilled and are semi-sweet, semi-sparkling and delicious! Try the Stella Rosa Red, it tastes like ripe raspberries, wild strawberries and plums, and pairs effortlessly from asiago cheese to strawberry shortcake (you can’t go wrong).  Another red wine we love from this brand is, Stella Rosa Blueberry, it pairs great with BBQ chicken, cheesecake and even a charcuterie plate (you fancy).

Jim Bean  Fruit Punch

Serves 1 punch bowl (10-16 servings)
Recipe adapted by The Spruce Eats

Ingredients

  • 1 750ml bottle cherry whiskey (Red Stag by Jim Bean)
  • 12 ounces strawberry liqueur
  • 6 ounces passion fruit coulis or (passion fruit juice)
  • 1 750ml bottle Champagne  (more if wanted)
  • Garnishes, strawberries, lemon twist

  1. Gather the ingredients
  2. Pour the cherry whiskey, strawberry liqueur, and passion fruit into a punch bowl with large balls of ice.  Have a bottle of Champagne on ice besides the punch bowl.
  3. To serve, ladle the whiskey mix into Champagne flutes and top with Champagne.
  4. Garnish each glass with a strawberry og lemon twist on the rim.
  5. Serve and enjoy!

Tips

Gleason suggests an easy way to make ice balls: Fill balloons with water and suspend them from your freezer rack until frozen. This will result in more of a teardrop shape than a ball, but it’s still very fun!Champagne may be recommended, but it’s not required. Pour any sparkling wine you like; you can often save money by going with Prosecco, Cava, or sparkling rosés.

Rosé Berry Bliss Punch

Ready in 60 minutes
Serves 1 punch bowl (10 servings)
Recipe adapted by The Spruce Eats

Other types of berries, including raspberries and strawberries, can be used with or instead of the blueberries.Depending on what’s easiest at the moment, use either fresh or frozen blueberries. This recipe originally recommended “1 bag frozen blueberries” which doesn’t clearly define the amount. About 1 cup of the fruit is perfect, but, by all means, add more if you like!

  2. In a small saucepan, bring the water to a boil.  Add the sugar and stir until it’s completely dissolved.
  3. Remove from the heat, add the tea bag, and steep for 10 minutes.

Discard the tea bag and let the syrup continue to cool.  Bottle and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Punch Preparation

  1. In a pitcher or punchbowl, combine the tequila, wine, hibiscus syrup, and orange and cranberry juices.
  2. Stir well.  Add ice and fill with club soda.
  3. Garnish with fresh fruit and enjoy!

Tips

The recipe makes about 12 4-ounce servings and should fit into a 60-ounce pitcher with the ice and fruit. Increase it as needed to fit your party needs. For the tequila and wine, make it really easy by pouring half of a 750 mL bottle of each. Use a full bottle when doubling the recipe.

3 Drinks to Enjoy in Savannah This Summer

At All American Liquor, we enjoy talking to our customers about the alcohol we sell and all the ways you can make it work well for yourself. Summer is a time for being outside, sitting by the pool, and, of course, drinking your favorite adult summer beverages. While you might know which types and brands of liquor you enjoy best, you may find yourself stumped on how to spice up your summer drinks into flavorful cocktails.

That’s where All American Liquor comes in. Not only do we acquire and sell all kinds of liquor, beer, and wine, but we also like to recommend fun ways to mix them up to get the most amount of fun and enjoyment from them.

Here are three adult drinks you can make for yourself in Savannah, GA, this summer!

Watermelon Tequila Cocktail

While it’s true that summer weather can often be brutally hot, the season is also a time to celebrate life. Summer is when a large variety of fruits and vegetables are available for consumers. From apples and strawberries to carrots and lettuce, summertime is a season of produce.

For our first drink, we recommend taking advantage of the summer watermelon harvest to make yourself some watermelon tequila cocktails! Like all the drinks we are discussing here, this one is simple and can be made by just about anyone.

First, puree small chunks of watermelon, preferably without seeds. Strain the juice from the pulp and rind, and then add some of our popular Savannah tequila to the juice. For the finishing touches, introduce some sugar syrup, a few blueberries, lime juice, and a leaf of mint. The result will be a perfectly refreshing summer drink that you will enjoy making again and again.

Mai Tai

You’ve heard of the famous mai tai, the rum cocktail that conjures up images of the sandy beaches of Polynesia. That’s the exact feeling we’re going for with this summer drink. A fresh, sweet beverage such as this one is sure to make those pool days or trips to the lake all the more relaxing.

And making a mai tai is simpler than you might think! Just mix 2 oz. of a popular Savannah dark rum with 1 oz. of lime juice, 1/2 oz. of orange curaçao, 1/2 oz. of orgeat syrup, and 1/8 oz. of rock candy syrup. Stir it all together to yield a yellow/red South Pacific cocktail that tastes as refreshing as it looks!

Mermaid Mule

The last item on our list is the mermaid mule, which simply looks like it belongs in the summertime. This light blue cocktail is made for sipping on the beach or anywhere your summer hangouts take you. You will need 6 oz. of any of Savannah’s popular vodka selections, 3 oz. of blue curaçao, 3 oz. of lime juice, 1 oz. of ginger beer, and three lime rounds to add to the drinks as a garnish. Throw in some ice, and you are good to go! Those ingredients will fill three small tumbler glasses. Whether you add little umbrellas to the drinks is up to you! Either way, the mermaid mule is one summer drink you won’t regret making when the daytime temperatures become too much to take.
